While the Honest Food Guide goes a long way with some great information, I was quite disturbed to see soy, tofu and soy powders listed as healthy foods.
2-3 yr fermented soy products such as tofu, tempeh, miso, soy sauce and tamari are suitable for use in condiment quantities such as we would use mustard or tomato sauce. They are not suitable as protein or meat replacement products for regular use. This is a MYTH perpetrated by big business who has a heap of soy protein isolate to get rid of as it is a waste product of the soy oil industry.
Commercially produced (not fermented for 2-3 years) soy products such as soy milk, soy sausages and burgers are NOT health food. They interefere with hormones and thyroid function quite drastically if sonsumed in any quantity and have been linked with breastcancer.
